Unions prepare to block Miliband bid

Labour’s left wing is mobilising to stop momentum building behind David Miliband as a potential successor to Gordon Brown.

With the foreign secretary refusing to rule himself out as a contender, union leaders are worried that a leadership battle could serve only to destabilise Labour. Nor do they want to encourage a contest which could leave the Blairite Mr Miliband in charge.
