UK banks face additional Basel II threat

Large UK banks including HSBC, Barclays and Royal Bank of Scotland might have to allocate additional capital of £3.7bn to comply with new rules setting out how much capital banks must hold.

The British Bankers Association and other banking organisations have written to the Financial Services Authority expressing concerns about proposals by the UK regulator to implement Basel II rules, following the European Union’s draft directive on the implementation of accord.
