Chancellor moves to encourage savers

The chancellor on Wednesday extended the life of individual savings accounts (Isas), the government?s flagship tax-efficient investment vehicle, until 2010, a year longer than the industry had expected.

The fund management industry welcomed the extension but urged Gordon Brown to produce a coherent savings policy to enable savers and investment companies to plan for the long term.
