Chavez seeks to abolish term limits

Hugo Chavez, Venezuela's president, will be allowed to be re-elected indefinitely and political power in the country will be further centralised under proposed reforms to the constitution.

The proposals, announced late on Wednesday, will enhance "people power" and deepen Mr Chavez's drive towards what he calls "21st century socialism" through a system of community councils and "participatory democracy".
