Call to unblock access to credit

Business groups on Thursday urged the Bank of England to shift its firepower towards unblocking access to credit, following the rate cut.

The Federation of Small Businesses had called for the Bank’s monetary policy committee to hold the base rate at 1.5 per cent, not because it was against cheaper money, but in order to show that the policy agenda had changed.
