Yahoo to take lead role in archive project

A global consortium of content owners, internet companies and academic institutions will be announced today, formed to digitise cultural, historical and technological works currently unavailable on the web.

The initiative, in which the internet company Yahoo is taking a leading role, appears to be a direct response to a similar project launched by its rival Google, which has met resistance from publishers and authors.
