Claims of delay to aid plans rejected

Alistair Darling on Tuesday rejected accusations that the government had dragged its feet over the implementation of two schemes promised in the pre-Budget report to support cash-strapped small businesses.

Business leaders have become increasingly critical of the failure to launch the small business finance scheme intended to guarantee £1bn of loans and another £1bn scheme to support small exporters denied trade credit.
