Health reformer calls for change of direction

Ministers should drop their growing reliance on apurchaser/provider split in healthcare because it is failing to deliver, according to a leading architect of health reforms.

The attempt to get primary care trusts and family doctors to negotiate with powerful acute hospitals was the "Achilles heel" of the shake-up, said Chris Ham, former head of the health department's strategy unit.
