CD seller to pay damages of £40m in copyright case

Leading record companies have won more than £40m in damages in a high-profile court case that shows the big penalties facing online retailers found to be in breach of international copyright laws.

Lawyers said the unusually large judgment against CD Wow, a Hong Kong-based CD and DVD seller, showed how heavily the music business would come down on companies it saw as profiting illegally from consumer price variations around the world.
