IL&P chairman refuses to hand back pay

The chairman of Irish Life & Permanent rebuffed shareholder demands to hand back her salary, arguing that it would signal that the bancassurer “was on its last knees” and would be seen negatively by big international investors.

Gillian Bowler said: “In any job you have to pay a salary, albeit a greatly reduced one.”
