Brussels weighs working hours accord

Workers regularly clocking up more than 48 hours a week will have to tell their employers in writing twice a year that they are prepared to go on doing so, under a compromise plan being discussed in Brussels.

The proposal is the latest concession made by the UK and its allies to keep their right to “opt out” of the European Union’s working time directive, following months of talks between member states and the European parliament.
