Turkey approves Iraq incursion

The Turkish parliament on Wednesday voted overwhelmingly to approve a military incursion into Iraq in a move that saw oil prices jump by more than a dollar to a fresh all-time high of $89 a barrel.

MPs voted by 507 to 19 in favour of the military operation, which would allow the Turkish armed forces to move against northern Iraq-based PKK Kurdish separatist rebels whom they blame for a series of attacks in Turkey in recent weeks.
