Deal on US troops faces tough fight

Iraqi leaders began studying a draft agreement on Friday to extend the US military presence in the country beyond this year, but politicians predicted it would face a tough fight in parliament.

The accord was expected to face its first test last night, as Jalal Talabani, the president, scheduled a meeting of Iraq’s Political Council for National Security to discuss it. The advisory body includes political, legislative and judicial leaders.
