Chinese president Hu Jintao warned on Friday against politicising the upcoming Olympics and said the games would help accelerate the modernisation of the country.

Speaking a week before the opening of the Olympics, Mr Hu said the government would pursue rapid economic growth while trying to keep price increases under control.
