Big freeze pushes oil price to record highs

The rise in oil prices to record levels this week was driven primarily by the cold weather in the northern hemisphere, boosting demand for winter fuel oils. Hedge fund money and output disruptions at US refineries also contributed.

Oil prices are expected to remain volatile for the next 10 days leading up to the next meeting of oil ministers from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries, which meets in Esfahan, Iran, on March 16.
