Cisco to pay $2.9bn for Starent

Cisco Systems made its biggest bet to date that the demand for data transmitted to mobile devices will continue to soar, agreeing on Tuesday to pay $2.9bn in cash for infrastructure firm Starent Networks.

The deal continues a streak of acquisitions by the networking group which just two weeks ago announced a $3bn acquisition of Tandberg, a maker of video-conferencing equipment.
