Tories set out plans for defence budget

A Conservative government would set a 10-year budget for defence capital spending to allow officials better to plan equipment needs, defence industry executives were told on Monday night.

Liam Fox, the shadow defence secretary, told a private gathering of industry leaders that the long-term budgets would be part of a new planning regime, to include a legal requirement to hold a strategic defence review in every four-year parliamentary term.
