Senators urge formal sanctions

Bank Markazi, Iran's central bank, should be subjected to formal sanctions, a number of US senators said yesterday, writes Daniel Dombey in Washington.

In a letter to President George W. Bush, Harry Reid, Senate majority leader, and 25 other members of the Senate's Democratic caucus called on Mr Bush to designate the bank as a "terrorist entity" or "entity of proliferation concern".
