Democrats question Bolton's fitness to serve

Character assassination was the Democrats' chief weapon on Tuesday as they succeeded in delaying and perhaps ultimately derailing the president's choice of John Bolton as the next US ambassador to the United Nations.

A heated and at times extraordinary two-hour debate in the Senate foreign relations committee swung back and forth as Richard Lugar, the Republican chairman, was repeatedly interrupted as he struggled to call a vote without further ado.
