Alexander defends U-turn on Scottish vote

Wendy Alexander, leader of the Scottish Labour party, on Tuesday defiantly defended her unexpected decision at the weekend to back an early referendum on Scottish independence, but refused to say whether the prime minister supported her stance.

“There have been close discussions going on for a long period of time, but I have no desire to reveal the details,” she said at Holyrood on Tuesday.
