Deal with US 'would distract Taiwan'

A trade deal between the US and Taiwan could distract the island from normalising its economic relations with China, according to new research.

Even the US industries that would benefit most from such a pact consider it less important than economic integration across the Taiwan Strait, says a study by the Institute for International Economics to be published on Friday.
