Toshiba losses hurt plans for rival offer

Toshiba, the Japanese consumer electronics group, may struggle to bid for a memory card rival after warning on Friday that it would make a first-half loss.

Toshiba is pondering how to respond to a $5.8bn bid for US-based SanDisk, with which it jointly makes Nand flash memory chips, from Samsung of South Korea.
