Switzerland raises interest rates

Switzerland raised interest rates by 0.25 percentage points yesterday as the central bank indicated further increases were likely to normalise a long period of ultra-low borrowing costs.

The Swiss National Bank increased its target range for three-month money to 0.75-1.75 per cent, as widely expected. The move followed a similar increase last December as bank economists predicted a continuing upturn in growth for the formerly sluggish Swiss economy.
