José Manuel Barroso, European Commission president, will next week travel to Moscow to present an EU energy strategy that aims to forge a new relationship with Russia, the main gas supplier to the 25-nation bloc.

Mr Barroso will hold talks with Vladimir Putin, Russian president, next Friday before presenting his energy plans to European leaders in Brussels the following week.
