Frazzled investors continue to turn to bonds

The mood in financial markets edged towards panic early on Thursday as investors continued dumping risky assets such as equities and high-yielding currencies for the safety of government bonds. But a late rally in US stocks restored some confidence late in the day.

The Morgan Stanley Capital International World share index saw its decline from July’s record high extend to 11 per cent – marking an official correction in global equities.
