BBC to pay record fine for bogus competitions

The BBC was fined a total of £400,000 ($792,000) on Thursday over unfair television and radio competitions involving “premeditated decisions” to air contests that audiences had no chance of winning.

It was by far the largest fine ever levied on the BBC by Ofcom, the broadcasting regulator, and followed a series of instances in which viewers were deceived.
