Australia open to Qantas and BA merger

Australia’s Labor government said on Wednesday it was open to a proposed $5.9bn merger between Qantas and British Airways as long as it was not a takeover and that 51 per cent of the airline remained in the hands of Australian investors.

”Our bottom line is that the ’Flying Kangaroo’ [Qantas] remains majority Australian-owned and based,” finance minister Wayne Swan was reported as saying by Reuters.
