The economy is slowing, petrol has hit £5 a gallon, unions are threatening a summer of industrial action and a Labour government is struggling to convince voters it has the situation in hand.
Anyone reading the headline’s in last week’s newspapers could be forgiven for thinking they were back in the 1970s. Yet any similarities to the stagnant growth and “Great Inflation” of the UK’s unhappiest economic decade are so far mild.
