Optimism returns to investment and insurance

Optimism has returned to the financial services sector for the first time in two years but banks and building societies are less confident as they struggle with record levels of bad debt, according to a survey published on Monday.

Although the three months to June saw business, income and profitability fall, the decline was at a much slower rate than expected earlier in the year, the CBI/PwC quarterly study of financial companies reveals.
