Kosovo’s leaders and their European Union overseers say they will finalise the constitution for the new state next week and name a firm date in the second half of June for them to take over power from the United Nations.
“Passing the constitution will enable the functioning of an independent Kosovo, not only in terms of status [as a separate country from Serbia], but with independence from the UN interim mission too,” said Muhamet Hamiti, advisor to Kosovo’s president, Fatmir Sejdiu.
