VW suffers summer sales slump

Volkswagen's sales in Europe dropped sharply in both July and August as an extended factory shutdown at the continent's largest carmaker led to supply shortages.

Figures released yesterday by the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association showed the VW brand was hit particularly hard, with registrations falling 13.4 per cent in August from the same period last year.
