Brown agrees to meet Dalai Lama

Gordon Brown, Britain’s prime minsister, has agreed to meet the Dalai Lama, Tibet’s spiritual leader, in a move that threatens to damage the UK’s strong bilateral relationship with China.

In recent weeks, senior Chinese government officials have warned the UK government that they would be seriously angered if Mr Brown were to meet the Dalai Lama on his forthcoming visit to London.
