Wall St stocks seesaw in volatile trading

US stocks gyrated between positive and negative territory on Wednesday when traders weighed poor economic data and a plan to allow government-chartered mortgage lenders to buy more loans.

The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight, which regulates Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, said it would remove the cap on the value of mortgages they could buy, which could boost liquidity in the industry.
