Northern Ireland police row shows sectarian strains

A row that broke out in the Northern Ireland government on Wednesday over how to protect police officers from paramilitary threats has exposed sectarian strains in the region’s leadership.

The dispute erupted as the police launched an investigation following the discovery of a 600lb roadside bomb in south Armagh that security officials believe was targeted at the local police station.
