Overview: Oil gains take toll on equities markets

A fresh surge in crude prices to record levels above $59 a barrel and concerns over the impact of a strong dollar on US corporate earnings prompted profit-taking on world equity markets.

High oil prices have ebbed and flowed as a concern for equity markets over the past year but the latest spike pushed them to the forefront of investors’ minds on Monday.
