It was back in 1904 that Louis Cartier created a watch for Alberto Santos-Dumont, the pioneer aviator, to wear on his wrist for ease of use in flight, since when the company has become just as well known for its timepieces as it is for its jewellery.
Models such as the Pasha, the Tank, the Tortue and, of course, the Santos, have become part of the history of watchmaking during the past century – but, in each case, the movement that lies at the heart of every Cartier watch has been supplied by someone else.
