Tokyo expects agreement soon over relocation of US troops

Tokyo expects by the end of this month to conclude negotiations that have dragged on for years with Washington on the relocation of some of the 45,000 US troops stationed in Japan.

In an interview with the Financial Times yesterday, Nobutaka Machimura, foreign minister, said: "We are just now entering the final stage. Both countries are trying to come to a agreement within this month."
