Virginia's heated middle-ground fight

When Mark Warner delivers the keynote address to the Democratic national convention in Denver tonight, he could be forgiven for viewing the coveted speaking slot as a consolation prize.

Three years ago he was considered the strongest challenger to Hillary Clinton for the party's 2008 presidential nomination after ending a successful term as governor of Virginia with an approval rating close to 80 per cent.
