Mayor reveals battle of Trafalgar victors

It has been the subject of a fierce debate among the British public: should the fourth plinth of Trafalgar Square be reserved for works of contemporary art, or should it be dedicated to the memory of a war hero who masterminded victory in the Battle of Britain?

Boris Johnson, London’s mayor, found a neat way of sidestepping the issue on Monday by putting the British public itself on top of the city’s most controversial art space.
