Bernard Madoff, the mastermind behind what could be history’s biggest fraud, on Friday lost his bid to be released from jail before his sentencing in June.

The federal appeals court in New York upheld a lower court judge’s decision to send the 70-year-old former broker immediately to jail after he pleaded guilty to 11 federal felonies last week.
