Small oil groups fear being swept away

Small oil and gas companies are to go through a wave of consolidation because of the credit crisis and the fall in oil prices, according to 3i, the private equity group.

Its prediction came as industry executives said they expected a radical shake-up, with weaker companies either being taken over or going to the wall, although the market turbulence has thrown some proposed deals into doubt.
