Big trade nations hail WTO breakthrough

Leading trading nations on Sunday applauded a breakthrough deal in the Doha global trade round, saying it would put the stalled talks back on track and revive confidence in the multilateral trading system.

The interim accord, struck by the World Trade Organisation's 147 members on Sunday, commits rich countries to cutting billions of dollars in trade-distorting farm subsidies and paves the way for more open markets for agricultural products, industrial goods and services worldwide.
