Household energy bills may have to rise further if current market conditions continue, warned Sir Roy Gardner, chief executive of Centrica, the country?s biggest gas and electricity supplier.

Rising gas and electricity wholesale prices have bitten into the margins of retail suppliers, which have responded by announcing a series of price rises in the past 12 months.
