Women think conflict unwinnable

A sharp and rapid deterioration in public support for the war in Afghanistan has been led by women, who are more likely than men to think troops should be called back from an “unwinnable” conflict.

Recent polls have shown that the killing of five soldiers by an Afghan policeman has severely hit public confidence, raising fears that the voters will no longer tolerate an extended military presence.
