Scottish refinery strike to go ahead

Ministers on both sides of the border attempted to damp down growing alarm on Thursday at the possible impact of this weekend’s strike at the Grangemouth oil refinery, insisting there would be no fuel shortages provided motorists did not “panic-buy”.

However, the oil and gas industry expressed concern over the implications of the shutdown for supplies from the North Sea, as the union involved warned it might escalate the dispute over pensions.
