Wales at the sharp end of the downturn

Nearly 25 years after Margaret Thatcher took on the coal miners and won, the UK may be witnessing the second death of Welsh mining and heavy industry.

Unemployment figures released last week show that Wales is bearing the brunt of the UK’s surge in unemployment, with nearly a fifth of UK redundancies between July and September occurring there.
