Tories risk rift after runway opposed

The national blueprint for airport expansion should be sent “back to the drawing board”, the Tories have declared, in a significant hardening of the party’s position that threatens a serious rift between David Cameron and business.

Theresa Villiers, the shadow transport secretary, suggested Mr Cameron’s attack this week on a third runway at Heathrow is likely to pave the way for the party to oppose airport expansion in the south-east.
