Wholesale fashion down but not out

When the recession hit last year, fashion retailers braced themselves for declining sales as consumers cut discretionary spending.

What has been less expected, however, is the hit that many fashion chains have taken in their wholesale businesses, which were previously a stable source of income. Their customers, the small independent retailers, have faced severe problems.
