Ireland’s Fianna Fáil-led government looks set to survive a vote of a no confidence on Wednesday after its drubbing in European and local council elections last Friday. But the poor showing at the polls, which left the coalition government with a narrow majority, raised fresh doubts over the coalition’s ability to push ahead with economic reform.
Enda Kenny, leader of the Fine Gael conservative opposition, on Tuesday called for an early general election, saying the coalition government no longer had a mandate.
