Iraqi wins right to challenge detention

A man held by UK forces in Iraq for eight months without charge won the right yesterday to challenge the legality of his detention.

Hilal Abdul-Razzaq Ali Al-Jedda had been held in Basra on suspicion of terrorist activity. Mr Al-Jedda, who denies the allegation, was born in Iraq but now lives in London after gaining asylum. The judicial review challenge is likely to be heard urgently.
